Produce 222
Produce 222 is a non-profit community center and garden featuring a food rescue market and cafe. Its main goal is to help diminish hunger and food waste within Jackson, Mississippi by utilizing local, gleaned produce.
For my senior capstone, I was given the opportunity to choose a topic I am passionate about. Fall semester was spent researching and finding a site, while spring semester I worked to fulfill the design.
I chose to research food waste and hunger within the United States. Having worked in the service industry throughout college, I am no stranger to the amount of food that is wasted each day.
The U.S is the leader in food waste, yet one in nine Americans—one in five children— suffer from hunger, with Mississippi having the highest hunger rates across all 50 states. My research journal contains more information and can be viewed below.
